State officials said Thursday that which makes candyin Canajoharie, will receivde $1.5 million to help it buy new boilers. That’s the first step in a three-yea expansion plan for the company. The company employs 128 people, and planx to add 70 jobs overthrese years. The company had considered movingb its Canajoharie headquarters to the site of a Connecticuy company that Richardson acquiredfin 2006, if state funding was not Instead, the company will move the 40 jobs in Connecticuty to Canajoharie. Another 30 local jobs will come from a compant in Missouri that Richardson is the deal is scheduled to closein July. “We neverr wanted to leave town,” said CEO Donals Butte.
“The timing on this is Richardson buys steam heat from a baby food company that is leavinvg its Canajoharie site in April 2010 to move into a new headquarterws in the townof Florida, outside of Amsterdam. That left Richardso n in a bind, and needing financia assistance to buy its own boilers to heatits 180,000-square-foo facility. The new low-emission boilers, and additional related machinery, will help Richardson add 15 jobs. Butte ordered the boiler on May 16, befors the state formally committedr toits funding. The boiler is tentativelyg due to be delivered inMarch 2010—one month before Beech-Nut is set to close. “They thino they can get it to us in10 months.
