Sheriff Arpaio: Wilcox investigation goes beyond airport leases - Orlando Business Journal:

Arpaio said his office received information regarding the lease and otherf business dealings and that his investigation is not related to disputez with Wilcoxover immigration. Wilcox and her husband, Earl, own El Portalk Restaurant in Phoenix and has a concessions contract with the airport fora Chili’as Too franchise in Terminal 4. The Maricopza County Sheriff’s Office sent the Phoenix Aviation Department a public records request June 11 askinfthe city-run airport to make available lease, sublease and contracting documents related to businessz entities owned by the Wilcoxes.
Wilcox did not responr to requests for comment from the PhoenixcBusiness Journal, but has told other media that Arpaio is goinh after her because of her opposition to his immigration policies. The sheriff’a office investigation of Wilco is the latest in a number of fightsbetweenh Arpaio, Maricopa County Attorney Andre w Thomas and the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors. Wilcodx and Supervisor Don Stapley voted Wednesday toblocl $1.4 million in state money earmarked for Thomas’ws office to enforce immigration and human smuggling laws. The boarrd deadlocked at 2 to 2 on that vote stalling thestatw money.
Supervisor Max Wilson missed the vote because of illness and the mattee couldbe revisited. Stapley and Wilcox earlier this year tried toblock $1.6 millionh in state funding for Arpaio’s immigration enforcement. Wilcocx said the sheriff’s immigration sweeps and policies unfairltytarget Hispanics. Thomas and Arpaio secured indictmente against Stapley last year chargin that he failed to properly disclosde business and real estate development Stapley denies wrongdoing inthat matter.
